Egg shape/size in first generation?

foxturtle Jun 21, 2011 02:52 AM

For those that have produced F1 hybrids, have you noticed the eggs themselves showing intermediate characteristics between the two parent species? For example, if you breed a male pine snake to a female corn snake, will the egg shape and size be influenced by the pine snake?

Being that the eggs are generated by the female, I would expect them to not show any intermediate characteristics until the second generation. However, being that we can very easily distinguish between fertile and infertile, the male obviously has some influence over their development.

females control the eggs size , if an f1 or f2 corn x king female that favours the corn shape and size then her eggs will match , same goes for the same thing but the female size of a bigger king , the eggs will match. iv never seen any unusual egg shapes/sizes out of the norm. on a few clutches there has been a couple of double eggs though.

Wait did you breed a pine to a corn and just say for example?

I've wanted to see pine corns for a minute...

Something similar to what you are talking about. I got eggs that were unusually oblong for the species that laid them. I didn't do any breeding intentionally, but the female was housed with a different species for a little while.
