wild caught baby iguana...

mr_phew Jul 01, 2011 08:33 PM

I just caught this little one. They're considered an invasive species here so I figured I'd give him a home. I had an iguana years back that I raised for a few years but never had one this small. Since he is wild caught, I'm looking for ideas to stimulate his appetite. I've got some hibiscus leaves in the enclosure for him. I've tried greens & veggie mix so far. Planning on a trip to the pet store soon for supplements, etc.
Any suggestions or advice?

He is adorable. I've never had any as small as the ones I have now and I'm finding it quite difficult. I have no real words of wisdom for you other than to read Melissa Kaplan's Iguanas for Dummies and Hatfields book Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owners Manual. Make sure the little guy has a UVB light, good mixed greens, and a temperature gradient with a basking area where he can get his temp up to 95 and a cooler section in the upper 70s with a humidity of, ideally, around 90%. Green Iguanas aren't easy, but they are well worth the time and trouble.
