Just picked up a blue iguana

Lokii Jul 03, 2011 03:41 PM

So I just picked up a blue iguana today from a local petco. Never seen these before, except on breeder sites and etc. Normally spend my time in cyclura forum, seeing as how I have a rhino. Can someone give me any info on these guys? where they came from and why petco has them? Whats next, albino iguanas at petco? He is awsome looking! Will post pics once he settles in

Lol, yes to all your questions. Just over the next few years they will probably carry different morphs as a special from fluker farms as a promotion. This year was a trial run, and it went well, so expect most petcos to get them. And yes to albinos as well, there are also several farms in central america with blue iguanas, just different countries. They are not that rare anymore, but still really cool.
Albinos I think I heard in 2013 will be in petcos.
The blues are same care as a cyclura/green iguana. Nothing different. Just worm them as it came from farm.

Pretty babies.

These are mine. My two little blues and my two C. lewisi hybrid.

Actually, I think both of those blues are Glaurung. This is Tazumal.

Very nice looking blues! Of course the rock iguana is awsome looking as always! How long have you had your blues? Do they seem to be retaining their color? I have heard both sides of the argument and and am interested to see if they will in fact keep their color with uv exposure and all that good stuff! Since I have had mine, he has been outside daily for some natural cali sun. Besides Tom C's adult blue, does anyone have anyother pics of an adult one?

I've only had mine a month today. So far, they are still very definitely different from greens. Somedays I forget how different because I've gotten used to looking at mine and I'll go into the pet store see the greens and go, "Oh, wow." However, mine were sick and they've been really stressed ever since I got them with the vet visits, meds, and such. If you look at their bellies, they are a very very beautiful aqua blue so I'm hopeful that they will be stunning when they shed.

Shortly after I got mine, I found this website of some adult blues in El Salvador:
