SC: Cottonmouth, Salamander, Garter

justingos Jul 04, 2011 07:23 PM

This Eastern Cottonmouth was found this morning (Independence Day) at about 9 am. It was probably hunting for frogs when I found it, but later was seen basking in the same spot--Richland County, South Carolina.

This salamander was found a couple weeks ago in Greenville County,SC. I have misplaced my field guide and don't have the ID on this one. What is this?

Eastern Garter Snake, found a couple weeks ago in
Greenville County, South Carolina.

Read next post, it gets better.

Looks to be Desmognathus auriculatus, the Southern Dusky.
