Finished my new outdoor pond

Linda G Jul 05, 2011 11:01 AM

Hi all,

I just wanted to share a couple of pics of my new outdoor pond. In addition to my box turtles I also have aquatic turtles, two of which I have had for 12 years. I also posted on the pond forum. When I resized them a little was cut off.

It is 8' by 6' with a 100 gallon preformed pond. I used soil and cypress mulch with river rock around the perimeter as my huge slider kept pulling mulch into the pond. I planted daylillies and hosta. I also have a solar light on each end for night time viewing. It does have a locking lid as does my box turtles due to the predators.

Thanks, Linda

Looks great Linda. Nice and secure with the screen too. Yeah you almost have to put gravel and rock around a pond to avoid having a mess. How do they crawl out of the pond to bask?

climb out via a wood ramp that is secured to the side of the pond with screws. You can see the top of it just to the right of the center of this picture. It goes into the water a few inches and has grooves in it to make it easy to climb. My RES is about 12" and weighs just over 4 lbs so she needs something sturdy. My two painted turtles can climb it very quickly.

Great looking pond. You could also put some creeping Jenny or Irish, or Scottisn moss around the pond. I like the moss. You never get any dirt in the pond. I also put some duck weed in mine. They love it and it spreads too.
