new to uros

rinoa05_1987 Jul 07, 2011 11:14 PM

Hello all,
I'm new to uro's and have been thinking about getting one for about 5 years now. my 10 year old leopard gecko passed away last year and I'm ready to get a new lizard, but I'm having trouble choosing which species of uro I want. does anyone know of a site that lists the difference between all the species, and says what one are better for beginners?
I've read through all the info at deer fern farms website but want a little more in depth info. so far I'm split between the mali, ornate, or Saharan.
any input is appreciated!
Thanks,
Ash

Deer Fern Farms is the best website I know of for describing the general differences in the species. From my experience, I'd suggest a Mali or Ornate over a Saharan. Each individual lizard is different, of course, but in general, Saharans are more skitty and prone to stress. Malis are pretty hardy. Ornates are hardy and usually pretty friendly, though more expensive. Get captive bred, whatever you choose - definitely worth the higher price.

1.3 Collared Lizards (Ripcord, Thiamine, Riboflavin, and Niacin)
1.0 Green Anoles (Sprocket)
2.1 Housecats (Roscolux, Stretch, and Jenny)

Thanks for the response! one more question I thought of, any sites with a comprehensive diet listing for uros? Deer fern mentions the plants you can feed, and discusses the veggies well but only mentions feeding lentils but doesn't go in depth with what kinds of lentils you can and can't feed. I used to own parrots so when it comes to lentils I've been scared into knowing which ones are safe and not safe for parrots but I don't know if that list applies to the uros.
Thanks again!
