Picked up this generic adult pair

chrisdrake Jul 09, 2011 08:19 PM

Traded someone a ball python for this proven adult pair of generic graybands. Both have great color. Up until now i've only kept locality animals but i couldn't pass up this pair.

The male

the female

Nice pair of graybands!! They are both very nice especially the male. If you breed them I'm sure you'll get some killer babies.

Well i guess i'm going to find out sooner than later on the babies. She refused to eat but was cruising around the tub and looked pretty girthy. She had already layed 5 eggs earlier this year for the previous owner but i just had a feeling so i put in a nest box last night and today here she is with 5 eggs. I contacted the guy i got them from and he had put them back together for about a week because he was having rack issues. Pretty excited this is my first clutch of alterna.

I guess that it looks like that trade is turning out even better than you thought. When those eggs hatch you'll have to post pictures of the hatchlings. Again nice looking pair of graybands.

Sweet. I remember my first clutch of alterna. It will be awesome seeing those little mini replicas of the adults crawling around in a shoebox and thinking about how just a few days ago you didn't have them and they didn't even exist. Beyond the money aspects one really gets to see some miraculous things in this hobby.

Thanks Aaron. I can't wait to see the babies pipping. I know what you mean. I've bred Subocs, western hogs and various geckos in the past. It is great but i get a buzz about alterna. Seeing my first wild alterna was the biggest rush i've ever had herping. I wonder if guys who have found 20 alterna still get excited? lol. It is a cool feeling. Definitely not in it for profit. I will probably give away a few to friends who have already asked about them and hold one or two back to raise myself.

I have found about 15 alterna, definately still get a rush but it's not as intense. With the first few the adrenaline lasted for hours.

my first insitu

That's a neat picture. Is that the moon in the backround or is it a reflection from a light or something like that?

Actually i took that pic looking down from the top of the cut and the light below is Nathan H. shining a flashlight up. It is a lousy pic but i'm glad i got an insitu of my first alterna. I should rephrase that because it was actually the 3rd in 10 minutes. The first was at the other end of the cut about 15 ft. up. A nice light blairs. We only got to see it for a few secs. before it went down a hole in the cut and never came back out. The second was in a large hole in the cut a few ft off the ground and something had been eating it. We retrieved the body for a pic. I don't know if it was a dor that was dragged into the cut or if it was killed on the cut. Decided to walk that cut one more time and saw what looked like a shadow climbing down the cut. It was a great night. Here is a pic of the chewed up alterna.

Nice light Blair's. Out of curiosity was it a normal ball or a morph of some sort?

It was a female mojave ball so dollar wise it might have been a little better for him but thats okay because i would obviously rather have the alterna.

I would have done that trade as well. Not only did you get a nice grayband pair but also a clutch of eggs that will hopefully hatch in a couple months.

chrisdrake Jul 14, 2011 07:55 PM

Thanks. I candled them last night and all 5 have are good. Just got an adult dark blairs female to make a trio for a pastel ball. No more balls.

Are there any updates on the clutch?
