help feeding spotted python babies

mike1234 Jul 12, 2011 04:40 AM

i recently had a clutch of spotted pythons hatch out. of the 7 babies i got, only 2 have eaten live unscented. any ideas for scenting, or should these guys come around for the scented over time? theyre going on 3 weeks now, which is why this is starting to concern me some.

You are going to need to assist feed them for a while.

If you have access to them give soft furred rat pinks a try. I know I know, that's supposed to be the ball python Africa thing but trust me, Lot's of non african animals seem to have a special attraction to these. I have had success with many types of snakes with these, including some WC stuff like Longnose snakes and a few different crotes.

Are they going on 3 weeks post shed or 3 weeks out of the egg?

mike1234 Jul 26, 2011 06:05 AM

the time is from egg. i forget to check this site.. 4 of the 7 have eaten to date. the other three still seem fairly healthy. theyve all shed at least twice, but two have taken the front seat with growing, double the meals, double the sheds.

Try a f/t split-head or brain cased pinky! If that fails, try a minnow scented pink!

mike1234 Jul 26, 2011 06:07 AM

tried splits on them, only got one to eat oddly enough. (above post mentioned 4 of 7 have eaten) so fish scent should work? would tuna by any hope? (im kinda used to feeding baby hogs)

Yeah, just like you were feeding hogs! Sometimes, all it takes is a different scent!
