JCP box size, or not

markg Jul 15, 2011 12:42 PM

I was taking a look on youtube and saw videos of carpet python breeders' setups. Many were using racks and have been successfully for years.

Since I am down to just a few CA boas now and just started into JCPs, I was considering the Freedom Breeder rack with tubs measuring 33.5 x 17.5 x 8 inches high. Quality is amazing of course, my question is of size. Perfect for the boas, but what about the JCPs? Do you think I should stick to cages with more height for JCPs?

For those who use racks for carpets, what size box do you have? Appreciate any opinions.

Hey Mark!

I have gotten into carpet pythons in the last couple of years too. Currently I keep my adult and near adult females in boaphile cages (36" x 24" x 17". Should get a few to breed this winter/spring. I have seen some monster female JCP that might require a 48" x 24" cage!

Is there a slightly larger tub to use? Hopefully others with more experience keeping carpets in racks will chime in!

Cheers,
Chris

Appreciate the advice. The more I see how the little carpet operates, the more I have realized that a cage with at least some height is best. BTW, I saw Animal Plastics makes a "carpet" cage with an integrated shelf. 3ft x 2ft x 15 inch high.

The boaphile cages I have include a hanging rod. I have them in 343A They do use it!

Suppose I should of wipe the plexiglass down. Doh.
