HELP! My dragon just layed 20 eggs!!!!

mlafa_ray Jul 23, 2011 04:46 PM

My dragon Jeebs is 3.5 years old and up to the last half an hour I thought she was a he! OOOOPS! I have speed read a few websites as well as going through all of the forms on kingsnake I'm still left with a few questions.

Background: She has never come in contact with a male so I'm pretty sure the eggs are not fertile plus all 20 of them are floppy and dented looking. She spend the majority of her days in my small screened in concrete porch and I giver her variety of food and fresh water every day. I also bring her in at night.

1. What should I do now?

2. Should I just throw the eggs away?

3. Do I need to take her to the vet?

4. Know any good vets is South Florida?? (I moved recently and haven't looked for one yet)

Thanks for all your help!

Toss the eggs away, or flush them, since they will be infertile. Give your dragon plenty of water, laying eggs is thirsty work.

You can gently palpitate her to see if she has anymore eggs in her but infertile eggs aren't easy to feel. Provide a proper egg nesting box, if she still is digging, though 20 eggs is a good clutch size... Make sure she gets plenty of calcium rich greens, and maybe give her some extra insects...She may lay more eggs in 3-5 weeks, so watch for signs of wanting to lay eggs again in a few weeks.

I don't think a vet visit is needed, not unless she starts showing any signs of stress or refuses food etc.
