Need some GTP advice

derekkh Jul 24, 2011 07:32 PM

i want to get a GTP for show so I want something that catches an eye but I don't have the slightest clue where to start. What should I look for? Price is relevant to my want of the animal. Thanks.

Difficult to suggest what to look for if you are not clear as to what you want. "Eye catching" doesn't help much since even a plain green chondro in a display cage can be eye catching. What are you looking for and what is your general price range? Have you looked at the classifieds? The selection and price ranges pretty much run the gambit over there.

True. Haha I guess for me it seems narrow. I was looking at animals that were taking me to 2k. I saw a tiger stripe 1 day but not since. I've seen blue dorsal and those were awesome as well. "plain green" would be cool but I also like different. Hope this helps a little.

Personally, what I would suggest is speaking and getting to know breeders. Look into good breeders and then tell them what you are looking for. they will guide you to a good situation that will fit the best. I love my Aru x Biak. Bright green with blue highlights. But again what I did was rather focus on the snake, I focused on an established and good breeder.

Thanks. This brings me to my next question of what are a few names of some good breeders to follow? Now I just have to get my friend to build my cage and I will be ready.

There are many, but here are several who you will regularly see in the classifieds section:

Rico Walder (Signal Herp)
Marcial Mendez
Buddy Buscemi
John Leckie
Scott Wysocki

Awesome! Thanks. I'm actually looking at signalherp now and there are so many. Never thought a show animal would be so much work. Is there a website that breaks down GTP "genes?" Also wondering if finding a hatchling is possible. Kind of want one from the beginning.

Not sure what you mean by "genes" so you would need to elaborate a bit there.

Several of the breeders I listed have, or will have, neos for sale. You do not want a fresh hatchling and I doubt any of those listed would sell you one. It can take several months to get them to be established feeders and you want to save yourself that headache when possible.

Mine came from Terry Phillip from black hills pythons. And all on that other list rock as well.
