How are white lips?

varanid Jul 30, 2011 10:49 PM

I guess I just haven't seen much on these. I'm building an outbuilding and getting my retics (much) bigger cages, so I'll have some 6x3s. Some are spoken for--king rats and a group of plated lizards--but that'll leave 3 open, and I'm debating putting together a trio of white lips. I'm open to other suggestions too though. I toyed with BRBs but kind of want something more...offbeat.

I don't mind big but they need to not require more than a 6x3 cage full grown (which should be plenty of leeway for big). White lips caught my eye because they're just frigging beautiful. I have a think for shiny snakes with gold tones (hence the retics!). Any words from people that have worked with them? This would be next year--I plan early to avoid foul ups.

I like largish snakes, and tend to favor ones with personalities-white lips seem to meet both from what little I've heard?

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.

Sexy, on my want list and fairly hard to find captive bred. Tom Keogan does breed them and had posted hatchling pics. Hopefully he will see this post and respond a bit on their care.

I'm not averse to WC that are in decent shape. I kinda like the 'gold' phase from the photos I've seen which works cause they're easier to find. And they're smaller. 6-8' is as big as I want any new snake to get.

This kinda answers both questions, what you hear me say about morelia is true for these guys. They are very active species. But you add the wild caught and you can end up with a very evil very active animal. Think of everything people say about amazons that is negative and add that with being wild caught.

part of what I really like about my retics and my florida kings is they seem inquisitive and alert (as opposed to balls or bloods or even sand boas and boa constrictors). I wonder if these are more along those lines or are they more sedentary?

L. albertisii is one of the most alert and reactive python species that I have worked with. Very beautiful pythons that never miss a thing. The young are usually very aggresive, but tend to become more tolerant of distrubance or handling as they become older.

That probably answers my question Awesome! I've learned I really prefer snakes that seem to be cognizant of thier environment and surroundings. This has largely translated to foraging vs sit and wait predators...it's probably unfair (any animal truly unaware of thier environment is a dead one) but it's still a perception that matters to me

thanks.

WLP's are an amazing species to work with. I've had mine for over 10 years, and its never a dull moment! Sounds like they are right up your alley. I still have some CB yearlings avail. PM sent
