Garter or Ribbon?

Mikesnake Aug 11, 2011 08:47 PM

I took these photos in April of last year and it's been bothering me since. It was about 5 or 6 inches and in a pile of dead leaves in Dallas County, Texas. Is it a Texas garter snake or a fat western ribbon snake? Unfortunately, these are the only two photos I have of this snake.

That looks like a fat young Ribbonsnake to me.

Now that I've made that call...I find myself doubting...maybe a Texas Garter?

Looks like what we called a plain old garter snake when I was a kid. But I could be wrong.
