Advice on ciliatus tank

dirus99 Aug 13, 2011 09:26 PM

At the moment I have two crested geckos, a breeder male (2? yrs old: orange flame: 32g) and a female (2 yrs old: buckskin: 35g) and I'm thinking of moving them from their 15 tall to a larger designer tank. I'm particularly interested in Zoo Med's terrarium that is 18x18x24. This has significantly more volume than a 29 long.

I'm also considering buying another female to get started on a small colony. Would this tank be too small for 3 adult animals? I've read that your total animal SVL should not exceed 50% the length of their enclosure. Since height is more important to these guys, I was wondering if this would be sufficient.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I actually have my 3 adults in the ZooMed 18x18x24, and they certainly seem to have plenty of space. They all get along great in there, as well.
I think it's a good size for 3, but if you add a 4th, it wouldn't be large enough.

That tank should be alright for a trio...just make sure you do have plenty of climbing perches running diagonally and vertically and cover, to break up line of sight. If the animals can't see each other even if close together, helps reduce chances of stress. Also, provide food in several different small dishes...baby food jar lids are good, or small ceramic bowls you can get at a dollar store work too.
