2011 Dryden clutch

rpelaez Aug 22, 2011 10:28 PM

Here's a nice clutch of 349 animals. The locality is approx 10 miles north of Dryden on Hwy 349. The father of this clutch is the last alterna that I collected in 2005 (#8). The mother is the only offspring I held back from a gravid female collected on the same trip (#5).

Those are some nice animals Robert. How is the Dryden black alterna doing?

The black Dryden is doing great. He lends a decidedly darker genetic influence that I find kind of different and uniquely appealing.

Dude.. love these snakes man... Love the locality, I remember Pat Cherryholmes scouting that area about 20-22 years ago.

Clean Clean Clean blairs. Hope all is well. Seems like you've had a good year so far!

Best Wishes,

StevenX

Thanks, I’m having a banner year. In fact, I’m looking at what has hatched and what will hatch and...it's way out of control, lol. Part of the West Texas attraction for me has been the small town experience. I hate crowds and very much like being the only one hunting a given area, so that little spot north of Dryden was a perfect fit. It was just me, the critters and the stars most of the time.

Dude, where are the Hueco pics? Are you getting them fitted for suits or what?

Robert you are a grampa! The pair of Drydens I got from you in 2009 produced these 8 hatchlings last week. This is their pre-shed pic.

Here is the female.

Here is the male.

He also bred with my generic female to make these.

Thanks for a couple of beautiful snakes!

Very clean patterned babies Robert and Kent. Congrats. I agree with you 100% Robert. Nothing like being out there with nothing but a flashlight, camera and a cut to walk.

That got a laugh out of me! I don't know how you guys do it that raise lots more than I do. 18 hatchlings is plenty for me.

I have only gotten 4 of the first clutch to eat. They hatched in early July, and it is no-where close to cool enough in my house to start their brumation. The second clutch I am not worried about since I will be able to cool them within a few weeks from now if they don't eat.

I think you told me that you routinely cool all of your alterna hatchlings without trying to feed until spring. Do you find that they get pretty thin before it is cools down?

Any suggestions on getting these to thrive will be happily accepted.

"I think you told me that you routinely cool all of your alterna hatchlings without trying to feed until spring."

No, No, No. Those were the rubber boas, not the alterna...lol. That's pretty funny. Rubber boas drop at the end of July/very early August. I keep them cool because they won't feed until the following spring, usually late April or May.

I begin to work with the alterna 2-4 weeks after hatching. In fact, I need to make a few lizard runs in the next week or two.

Wow, I really misunderstood. I guess I am on the right track then since I have been able to get some of them to eat.
