i just picked up a gtp at the daytona expo this past weekend. hes a little over a year and i have him in one of those big exo terra cages sence they were selling them so cheap at the expo. he has a couple perches to use to curl up on and im using a thin layer of cypress mulch on the bottom of his cage. his temps are around 87 and i mist 3 times a day so his humidity is never lower then 40%. wasnt sure if hed eat sence hes in a new place but i tried anyway and he snatched it right up last night so i guess im doing okay then with his new home. any other tips or pointers anyone wants to give me that would be great.

I usually keep my Chondro round 82. I would watch to see that you dont let him get too much warmer.

I agree,87 is a little warm.....low to mid 80s is good.Watch how often you mist and the amount as well.I mist my chondros once every other 3-4 days and extra during shed cycles and after a meal.Misting chondros every day is becoming a thing of the past

okay i droped the temps down a little bit and cut back misting to just in the morning and again during the day if the humidity gets too low. but i am starting to get a little concerned...hes eaten twice in the week and a half ive had him but i have yet to find any poo. other then that he seems to be doing great, sits on his perch during the day and then gets active and starts moving around at night. couldnt get the pics to upload for some reason but my thumb nail pic is him.

If it is over a year old, I would not feed more than 1x per week at the most and prefer to go 10 days between meals at that age. Don't expect it to defecate between each meal - some do, some don't.

yeah im gonna feed him every 10 days now, fed him after i first got him cause i wanted to make sure he would eat for me. and then again just to get him on the same cycle as everything else. just wanted to ask, ive only had king snakes in the past and it seemed like those guys pooped all the time haha.

Yes, compared to chondros, colubrids poop ALL the time which is why I will never keep them again.

haha just another reason for me to love these guys even more. i always stayed away from pythons and boas for some reason. then i started looking into chondros about a month ago and just decided to go for it and i couldnt be happier with him.

It kind of an odd thing to chime in on, poop and all but you guys are right. I have a big number of colubrids and a half dozen pythons now. Got to say when it comes to the poop factor python poop doesn't smell anywhere near as bad and it is alot easier to clean up. Ya its funny to make an observation like that but its true!
