DeKay's Snakes mainly eat earthworms and slugs. They are not the easiest snake to keep. It is unlikely that it will eat if it is out of its cage. They are shy snakes that do not like being handled or watched. They also need a humidity gradient in their cage in order to prevent dehydration. They spend most of their time hiding.

These snakes don't eat crickets or mealworms. New snakes should be left alone in their cage for a few days to "settle into" their new environment before feeding is attempted.
