CB Hatchling Brumation?

rkhorne Aug 28, 2011 07:28 PM

Can someone point me to a good care sheet that discusses CB Hatchling Brumations, the should we, or shouldn't we and the techniques if we should?

Also, could someone point me to any growth rate sheets out there. The Aquas are ravenouse eaters, growing at a phenominal rate....already doubled in weight in 3 weeks! I want to see if this is normal?

Thanks,
Roger

Eve's website includes the best care sheet that I know of:
www.suncharmers.com

Most people do not brumate during the first winter. I never have. And although I would not advise it, I will point out that wild ones have been doing successfully it for millions of years. In the spring I have seen wild babies come out of brumation that are not much bigger than a hatchling.

And yes, with the unlimited food supply that wild hatchlings do not have, a captive hatchling can grow very quickly. My 10 week old male (part aqua) weighed about 3 grams at hatching and now weighs 18.5 grams

His 5 weeks old sister (from another clutch) was also at about 3 grams when she hatched and now weighs 9.5 grams.
