canned food-- dog vs cat vs herp

OliveJewel Aug 31, 2011 02:09 PM

Can't think of the best place to post this. Possible x-post in the beardie forum would be helpful. I know a lot of BTS owners feed prepped diets too.

I don't use canned very often and when I do I use canned dog food mixed with minced greens and smashed freeze-dried crickets. I'm going out of town and I want to make it as easy as possible for the caretakers of my Schneidy's.

So I'm going to buy that super expensive canned lizard food they sell at the pet shops. I almost suspect that my lizards will balk at it because they've never eaten it before.

How do you think that canned lizard food compares to canned dog and cat food nutritionally? When I go to the store I will compare the ingredients and nutrition from the herp stuff to the mammal stuff just to see. Wondering if you've already investigated this...

2.2.2 Eumeces schneideri (Jack and Mabel; Kaa and Cochisa their babies)
0.0.4 Egernia striolata

A quick summary of the options at PetCo quickly convinced me that the prepared herp diets for sale at my local store are not worth much. Artificial food dye? No way!
