My eldest son, with whom I spent more than 100 days in West Texas hunting for graybands, passed away just four months after the ban went into effect. Its so good to hear that the regs are being changed so I can return (this time with another son and a daughter in June of 2012) to indoctrinate my other children in the art of herping.

My question is this: I have caught drift that there will be a need to purchase a license (as before) and in addition to that, a stamp. However, in one of the threads mention was made of the need for a collector's permit. Is that really needed? I always thought a collector's permit was required for those individuals who were collecting protected species or going out for scientific research purposes. I'm not really sure though, and I would appreciate anyone out there shedding more light on this for me.

Happy Herping,

Marlon Smith

All you will need is a hunting licens and the herp stamp and a reflective vest unless you are collecting commercially,if you have more than 25 animals than you will need the commercial permit.

i thought there was 2 different permits. a nongame collectors permit and a nongame collectors and dealers permit. I believe you have to have the nongame permit to collect an animal. guess i need to go read the new booklet.

As long as a person hunts non commercially and stays under the limit you will need only a hunting licens and a herp stamp, by the way the stamp is not actually a stamp, it will be printed on the licens, herp or reptile stamp.
If a person buys or sells than the outher permits come into play.

Sorry to hear about your son and I am sure you will relive some wonderful memories when you go. Can anyone give me a link so I can read about the changes coming in Texas Herping?
Thanks.
