Rescued a baby racer. Need some help!

cdis1990 Sep 04, 2011 11:53 PM

I volunteer for a nature preserve and was approached by the director and was told that a baby black racer was "dropped off". Who knows what that meant, but... Knowing that I have a collection of reptiles I was asked to take care of it. I couldn't say no. I know that they are a tough species to raise. I'm not sure about feeding, mostly. I have raised and bred boas, rats and kings, so I have experience and know-how with snakes. This little guy is so small. Any tips or help would be much appreciated.

i have had luck w/ cricket frogs or baby toads. anything that hops or moves --movement entices racer curiosity. sometimes scented pinkies. i'd let the snake go myself.

I would release it, but I was told that he was kept in a cup for a few days and then in a little glass cage for a week before I acquired it. I don't know its age or if it has ever eaten before. I don't want it to die if I let it go.
