Feeding problem

jwarburton44 Sep 06, 2011 07:21 PM

Ive had my aru for about a month now and i heard that you should handle gtp only during the day and feed them at night so that is what i have been doing with no problems at all super docile snake. However, The other day i was leaving for the weekend so i fed her in the day time and now everytime i go to take her out in the day time she thinks im looking to feed her. Any tips on how i could get her to stop this behavior and get back to her old self?

So you fed her during the day before this past weekend? How many times have you tried to handle her since the weekend to conclude this is a problem? Its only Tuesday so it seems a bit early to be concerned.

I suggest returning to your typical night time feeding schedule and just give her some time. Chondros are no different than any other snakes. They can learn to tolerate handling, but that doesn't mean they like it. Try not to get into the habit of handling her too much. This can lead to stress, which can increase her susceptibility to illness.

Personally, I feel this is one species that does better when appreciated from a distance.

Thanks for the advice. Ive only fed her the one time during the day. Again she has been super awesome im terms of handling and is clearly exhibiting a feeding response, not defensive. ill give her some time hopefully she will come around
