A CB sexed pair of EBTs--Fantasy?

Dr_Terrapene Sep 15, 2011 11:23 AM

Hello everyone,

I have been tracking numerous classified sites for many years always searching for that elusive sexed pair of CAPTIVE BRED Eastern Box Turtles... to no avail. Is this quest of mine even remotely possible? I cannot support the WC trade in any way, nor am I gullible enough to fall for the false advertising that is most 'CB' claims. It has been a few years now and I feel like it is an impossibility...

Thoughts?

Thanks!

It is not impossible, but since it could take several years for a breeder to be 100% certain of gender, such specimens would be expensive.

I am quite happy to bear all financial responsibility that comes with not supporting the WC trade I don't want to save money at the expense of my conscience.
I am in Ohio.
Thanks!

Kudos to you for holding out for CB pets.

While you may be willing to pay a premium, the majority of breeders do not seem to be inclined to make that investment of time and effort. There is an expense for the person raising such specimens, and no guarantee that the animals would sell, given the competition.

If you haven't already, contact herp societies and reptile rescues. Adopting displaced animals or unwanted pets may be a viable alternative for you from an ethical standpoint.

Good luck!
