Blue Tongue Baby

wrathofrath Sep 15, 2011 04:28 PM

I just got a new blue tongue baby about a week ago and he hides practically all day. Is this normal behavior? Thanks

100% normal and good. If it were hanging around in the open there might be something wrong with it, generally speaking. Baby lizards are prime dinners for many animals and are born especially flighty and shy. Congratulations on the new addition! Good you gave it a hiding place. When you see it out just gently handle it for short amounts of time and when you feed it either feed it out of your hand or hold the food dish or just stay close and keep your hand close. Your baby skink will get used to you and realize that you are associated with good food and calmness. If it runs away from you and hides when you put your hand in the cage, don't dig it out, let it feel secure that it can get away from you and hide if it wants to. That's my opinion, but use your intuition. You will be spending the next 10-20 years with this animal and you are building a relationship.
