So my girlfriend came home the other day with a ballpython. Un beknownst to me the thing was crawling. Now It is in the same room with my green trees however i havent seen any mites on them. That being said i feel i should treat everything just incase.

In my arsenal I currently have,

Jurassi Mite Spray
Provent A Mite
Zoo Med 8.75 oz Mite Off

I am also considering fighting fire with fire.

Mites that prey on other mites, does anyone have an experience with these? Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks, Sean

I don't see NIX in your arsenal? Does the job in my opinion.

Would this be the product? Is it for treating the enclosure or the animal itself?

Thanks!

When NIX is diluted properly the only object I remove from the cage is the water dish. Everything else, incl. the snake gets a light misting, right up to the top edges of your enclosure. Never tried misting the outside, but it can't hurt. Water dish is re-placed in about 2 hours. Mike

The one time i ended up with mites (on my amel ruthveni) which really ticked me off pretty bad. I used seven-dust by recommendation of an old herper friend of mine... Took care of them quickly.

I got a clean tub, no bedding at all and poured a little seven-dust in my hand and blew it into the tub. I let it settle for about 15 minutes then put a bigger than normal water dish in there with her. She would mostly soak (even before i started treating her) in the water and i would notice the mites floating in the water. I changed the water every few hours and before i knew it the mites were gone.

Right now you can spray Provent a Mite (PaM) outside your tree python cages. That will kill any mites trying to get in.

Same with the ball python cage - that will kill mites trying to get out.

Inside the cage, I like plain old flea powder, like Hartz, because it seems to kill mites but has never had an adverse effect. Some baby montane kings and rosyboas can have a reaction to PaM.

Great idea about spraying on the outsides of the cage! I will most definatly be doing that.

A friend of mine used to cut up cat flea collars and put them in prescription bottles with small air holes burned into them, he swore it killed the mites in the cage and on the animals? anyone else ever heard of doing this ?
