spotted salamanders found

sallyjohn Sep 22, 2011 07:26 PM

I live in Two Harbors, MN and found 4 spotted salamanders and 1 tiger salamander in window wells up here. Is it ok to house them together? The tiger salamander is about two inches longer then the Spotted salamanders. I put them in a cage with worms, crickets and pill bugs and slugs. They ate everything except the slugs. Any information i have found online says they eat slugs but they won't touch them any one have any opinions why? Thanks, John

I wouild advise against it for a few reasons. First reason is that 5 big salamanders are going to need a rather large tank. The tiger salamander is much more agressive than the spotted salamanders and will outcompete them for food and may attack and injure the spotteds. All 5 are burrowing salamanders so a loose substrate a few inches deep is required.
