gila monster regurging

shane mader Sep 24, 2011 07:56 AM

I have a couple newly aquired gila's that are regurging. All temps are correct. Does anyone have any suggestions? Worming them perhaps? Flagyl? Panacur? Dose amounts?
Both gila's ave good weight and are adults.
Thanks,
Shane Mader

By all means obtain a fecal n get them treated if you really suspect they got parasites. But, if I were you I'd hold off on the medication right away.

I've had gilas n beadeds have regurging problems from time to time and I beleive its from stress. I think sometimes the acids in there stomachs go on overdrive or somethin....just my opinion though. Make certain they are cooling off at night n dark first off n leave them alone for a month or so till they come out in see ya. I've had great luck lowering daytime temps to low eighties max and soaking my problem animals twice a week in water with some powdered cuddlebone added to it. The calcium n water seem to neutralize the acids some. Sometimes I'll feed them a couple meals of pasteurized egg with cuddlebone powder before and in between small rodent meals to kinda rehab there GI system. The egg/calcium rolls through them fast helps perk them up keep the intestine rollin! ha ha Once they start holding rodents back off the egg but keep up the soaks. I always soak my quirky feeders day before n couple days after a feed. They learn to like the dead bone smell/taste of that cuddle bone powder n like the soaking.

This has worked excellent for me and was a technique I just came up with myself when my parasite free lizards puked sometimes. So far out over thiry heloderms I've had three or four get this problem but all of them grew out of it eventually.

Peace
