Help with Habitat

Hi.
Id like to convert a rodent cage into a habitat for a crested gecko. The cage measures:29 " high by 24 " wide by 18 1/4" deep. It is wire all they way around. I thought I could cover 3 sides and the top with heavy plastic to increase humidity. However I have two concerns. Is it ok for the gecko to climb around on the wire - there are three levels with wire ramps - I will of course add foliage and more natural climbing structures to the cage. Second, our house gets cold at night...we don't use the heater often so it can get down to 55*F maybe less occationally. Is there a night time light that can help with heat in such an open container, or maybe a heating rock would be better. Or maybe covering the cage with a blanket at night would suffice.
I guess I may need a day light too in the winter, sometimes the house gets down to 65* during the day.
I would appriciate any advice you have.

Thanks!

Sounds like too much fuss than it's worth. That wire cage will be dirty and tough to clean.I'd spend 25$ on a cheap aquarium and cover before I'd rough it.Usually a party bulb will work for heat or a small heating pad just so they can warm up if it's too cold.Maybe just a red fluorescent thats left on most of the time during the winter. I'd stay away from heat rocks they can get too hot for cresties.Of course if your really on a budget get the biggest sterilite container you can afford and poke a lot of holes in it(you'll need good airflow to keep mold down),you can keep it for a quarantine for future use after you buy a real terrarium, don't bother with the expensive substrates, use paper towel, get the temp. and humidity requirements set...
