Got a baby at NARBC

Linda G Oct 11, 2011 08:09 PM

I did tons of research on these guys and was very surprised to find ONE baby skink at the show in Chicago. There were a few adults but nothing compared to the number of snakes. I am afraid the show might be turning into the snake show instead of reptile show.

Anyway, I got my baby and it is doing very well. It has eaten each day starting with the day we got home. So far I have been making salads of turnip greens, butternut squash one day, carrots one day and a little fruit each day, a little hamburger, a little cat food and this morning a little hard boiled egg. I tried to give him a waxworm and he just picked it up and tossed his head side to side??? He didn't eat it. I will post pictures after I give him a little time to acclimate. He is about 4-6" long.

I saw somewhere that they like apple sauce. Is this OK to give them as a treat?

Thanks, Linda

Yes, it is okay to give it to them as a treat. As long as you are giving them a well-rounded diet and they are not getting obese, it is okay to give them treats--this is especially useful in your handling sessions to get them acclimated to you.
