Digestion Problems?

chefdev Oct 11, 2011 10:29 PM

I recently obtained a new juvenile savu python a few weeks ago... I feed it three small weaned live mice the first week I had it and then two more small ones the following week. They love to burrow and she never seemed to get away from that heating pad. Cage temp was around 85 plus back heat. When I switched her cage, after the first feeding... I only found one small white clump and it was very dense like caulk. I had just fed her the second round at this point. I checked her cage once again now two weeks later. only to find another small white dense clump! She is in a jar, her waterbowl... I cant get her out. I was going to try and put some pressure on her vent to see if I can clear it. She just tensed up in there and hissed at me when I tried to get her out. I moved the jar closer to the heat tape and turned it on high.

Any thoughts?

This is posted in the wrong forum (should be in general pythons).
However- The solid white chalky stuff are urates. Its a normal solid waste product comprised of the minerals and salts in the urine. Dont try to force any out that you feel in the snake. The savu is hiding out in its bowl because its too hot. 85 ambient plus an additional hot spot it way too hot and the snake is attempting to cool off with a dip in the pool. And further, you are overfeeding. One mouse, the diameter of the snake, once a week is more than enough for a savu.

Thanks for the feedback!
I posted here because I needed a fast response. The mice were very small smaller than the diameter, it probably was a little much. I moved her cage a few days ago, it is now 80-82 with a hot spot. She is in shed but I will watch her temps a little more closely.

Thanks Again
