Found large snake skin in New England

DSavickey Oct 12, 2011 10:28 PM

I live in New England and herped many years in the area. Some of the largest snake skins I found were from the smooth Black Racer that were as long as 6ft(skin). However I was in the woods and came across this large skin. Know Im 99% sure this skin came from either a Timber Rattler, or a Northern Copperhead. I was wondering if anyone can identify.

Timber rattlesnakes and copperheads are some of the few snakes that leave a pattern on their shed skins. Looks like a timber rattlesnake to me. Definitely a male snake too, because you can see the shed hemipenes. It's good to know you still have rattlesnakes in the area!
