Alcohol Poisoning in a Snake

mgoblue347 Oct 15, 2011 03:18 PM

Okay, some ***hole poured alcohol into two tubs of my snake rack when I wasn't there(a rms friend) and I didn't find it until this morning. Both snakes homes reaked of the whiskey that was poured in and the entire enclosure soaked. The one female hypo was visibly intoxicated and couldn't support her body the other male hypo seemed to be okay. After a few quick emails to breeders I was advised to go to the vet asap that alcohol is extremely toxic to snakes. I found an emergency vet and took both in where they are now in a heated oxygen chamber with some sort of iv solutions going to both. The bill before the specialist even looked at either snake was $300. I wanted to know more about alcohol and snakes. I cannot find a single website that talks about what goes on in the body of the snake when it is introduced to alochol. This happened this morning and I am pretty devastated and as of now I don't know what the outcome of my 1.1 hypos will be. Any knowledge what so ever is appreciated. My email is mgoblue347@gmail.com

If this post is not a joke, then I hope the best for the snakes, and two questions:

1. 1.1 Hypo what?
2. I'm very interested in what drove your friend to pour whiskey into a snake tub.

I've read alot of stuff here, some outrageous, but true or not this tops it all so far.

It seems that neither you nor your "friends" are mature or responsible enough to maintain even a gold fish. I'm amazed that you even announce your stupidity on a public forum. To each his own, I suppose.

I would hope that you move your snakes to a safer location and possibly press charges on the culprit that pulled this crap! And reward that individual with a half gallon of buttermilk in his gas tank!
