Congratulations Barney * male collareds

Eve Oct 20, 2011 11:32 AM

Hey Val, that Old Crota has been busy this year, lol. Doing some fine work. Tell him I said congratualtions on the speaking date. Awesome book and photography too, loved it.

As far as males and communal brumation, I don't doubt it a second. In all the years I have kept and worked with these guys I have kept pairs of males together many times, always do, and have never seen a problem. Even if I have a couple females in the enclosure with them during breeding season. Each male will mate with the females, and sometimes I even see one male encircling the other and trying to breed him lol. I have not seen any stress to either male. After all is said and done everyone returns back to the basking rock and bask together.

I see more grabbyness or little squables over food between FEMALES than I ever see with males.

I do not push this to new comers that want to keep collareds, as far as keeping males together. But obseving all these years I think most of what we read about them just is not 100 percent right in most cases.

Also many have said collareds do not get lonely or need a cage mate.... I say how the hell would they know unless they too were a collared???? LOL
I have seen them together and they are active, and content, and seem like they are enjoying themselves and interacting.
I also have observed when all the others are taken out and one is alone, there is a BIG difference. Sometimes the one does not come out as much to bask, does not jump around as much or all in all looks a bit lost. Put a cagemate or two back in and watch the difference , it's almost joyous to watch.... lol

Thats my take on it all. :0)

Here is a photo taken a couple weeks ago of a group of NM juveys, they had 3 different hides in their enclosure, but when I lifted this hide up there they are were in a Happy Heap, sleeping, heads,,, feet and tails everywhere... very CONTENT

Maybe the hide was the most comfortable heat wise so they all gravitate to it. Or of course too maybe they just like each others company. LOL

Oh I couldn't put Elvis and Bugsy in the same habitat as Bugsy has the small lizard syndrome as he's always lunging at Elvis when he catches sight of him, mind you Elvis just ignores Bugsy.

I miss ya patrolling these forums! Hope all is well Eve! Lots of baby collareds this year? Any vestis?

Eve Oct 21, 2011 03:08 PM

Hahhahaa ! :0) Ya miss the ole PHEve hunh, lol. Yeah I was on here everyday, and posted so many pics probably made everyone run away, hahahhaa. If they paid me a weekly salary of even 25.00 I would Make this forum rock, hahahaha LMAO. It is sooooooooo dead here anymore, I usually only stop in once a month maybe, kind of went elsewhere. A few more times lately to talk about our celebrity BARNEY (Old Crota) could not miss the oppurtunity to say HORRAY Barney!

Anyway yes I had a bunch of cute collared kids, many sold through email before I ever got them on my site, guess that's a good thing. Then I have some later hatchers. No vestigium this year, I had no female, and my 2 year old male died. I do have my old 13 year old CHINO, I will have to post a pic of him, he's still hanging in there. His gorgeous yellow vestie wife Chia, passed away about 3 years ago. He may be old but Chino is still enjoying life and lives with a male buddy and 3 females.

Your probaby going to be sorry you asked with this long post, but I'll tell you anyway, hehehe. I still have old Grebster big and handsome, and Little Hooty(disabled Chuck from BJ) she is going to be 9 this Nov. They live together. And I still have my granite spiny pair, and orange headed desert spinys, uro, BTS, clown agama group and black agama girls and some clown/black crosses.

Also I never really got into leopard geckos in all my years of lizard keeping, but 3 years ago I saw a mack snow leopard gecko and feel in love, so he got a girlfriend, lol and went from there with a few other pairs of different snows. I only work with SNOWS from high quality parents. This year I got 42 Snow babys. I have a page on my site for my pet adult geckos, but the main one is called "JUST SNOWS" and thats where the kids go when ready to sell. So if ya know anyone looking for some awesome snow juvey/subadults send them over. Well Tom, thats just about my life this year, takes most of my time ;0)

I have been reading you had a big bunch of chuck kids this year too. AWESOME
