Which is correct? Bredlis or Centralian

calebjg Oct 20, 2011 12:07 PM

I notice they use the names interchangably. So which is the real name?
My guess is Bredlis since Centralian is only more of where they come from then any kind of species or whatever.

Anyway Im loving my new girl, she is super calm but so tiny.I expected her to be bigger somehow.Amazing they can grow to such size and start out so small.

Of course, the "correct" (scientifically accurate) designation is Morelia bredli, which is why many keepers refer to the animals simply as "bredli" for short.

But you should feel free to use any and all of the common names (Bredl's python; centralian python; centralian carpet python). I go back and forth myself, but I like the ring of "centralian" for some reason.

Much more importantly, they are wonderful captives. I adore my young pair and look forward to working with these animals for the rest of my life. Easily my favorite snake to this point!

Enjoy yours.

So what should she be eating.Ive been giving her one fuzzy mouse a week but since she is soo long, yet skinny it seems like she should be eating at least twice that even though the fuzzys are about as big around as she is at her widest.

I have a 2010 Bredli that is rather small compared to some of my other 2010 Morelia, but I feed him a rat pup once a week. Carpets can handle fairly large meals as long as they have the proper temps to digest. I would definitely recommend getting her on rats ASAP, you don't want to be feeding mice when she is full grown.
