Eastern Blackneck Garter Feeding Questio

kfisher29 Oct 29, 2011 03:55 PM

Hello,I have a group of captive born 2011 eastern blackneck garters that are feeding great on f/t pinks. Currently this is all I'm giving them to eat. I'm curious whether or not I should be adding any vitamins to the pinks while they're growing or do the pinks have enough calcium and nutrition for these growing snakes. Being diurnal I'm sure they would benefit from UV type lighting as lizards do. They are growing good! Any info would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Kevin Fisher

They'll do just fine feeding on pinkies... And they'll grow fast. I use heat lamps for some of my garters and the other ones are kept in rack systems with back heat. Garters will often bask under the heat lamp, especially if they're full of food.

Thanks!!! They're in racks with back heat and they're really growing fast! I'll try and get some pics up.
Thanks,

hey kev,

you had these little guys in slide out boxes? i got some from graham. if so, i'm gonna put them back into slide out boxes cuz' it's easier for me. lots of times when i do that, they stop feeding. they seem to feed/feed better when i place them in an aquarium with a spotlight. tom

Hey Tom,yes they were all in a V-18 rack, slide out boxes, back heat was 85 and front is around 76-78. They are doing so well! They never skip meals either. I've got nine and it takes me 2 -3 minutes to feed all nine non-scented f/t small pinks. I would love to set them up with a spot light. I think I'll set a trio up in a 20 gallon tall I have once they get more size.
