looking for opinions on rosies...

grnpyro Nov 03, 2011 08:00 PM

I have a pair of dulzura rosies that I aquired in July that were either born late last season or early this season. Coming up on winter I have been wondering what the best thing for them is, to cool or not to cool.

They are not ready to breed, feeding heavily, and growing rapidly. The reason I ask is bc I keep mountain kings and some of them stop eating at the wrong times bc of not giving them a cooling and was not sure if rosies might also do this?

If they're eating well, keep em warmed and eating.
I only cool mine if they're gonna breed, or won't eat.

It seems that everyone has a similar idea. With mountain kings they are telling me only to keep them up for the first winter if they are strong eaters, and with rosies some are telling me that they have even had theirs breed with no winter and never experience off season fasting.

Thank you!

When I kept rosies years ago, they would breed successfully in Spring if all I did was darken the cage for the Winter. I left the heat on, but only around 82 deg, and the air temps did drop during Winter so much of the cage was nice and cool.

Some would eat all the way through but less frequently, some didn't eat at all (typically older males). All were healthy though.

Here is some low desert rosy habitat for you..
