Ackies and Breeding Pairs

skreal Nov 09, 2011 02:41 PM

I was reading up on Ackie breeding and housing. The artical said that it is hard to sex them until about 8 months old and it is best to start out housing 3-4 babies together to form bonds and to up the chances on getting both a female and male. Does anyone have any good links for this kind of information?

Also I haven't found anything about breeding offspring together. Is that possible? Like if I pick up 4 babies from the same female clutch? Will they breed still or do I have to get different babies from clutches of other females?

Reptiles naturally inbreed. Humans out breed. the reason is, we artificially support genetic defects, so they are passed along.

In nature, a genetic defect, stops right in its tracks. No medicine, no doctors, no hospitials, no vets, If something is born/hatched with defects, its dead right there. end of story, That line of genetics stops.

Humans support inferior genetics with intelligence. Something to be said for that, I guess. hahahahahahahahahahaha.

Back in the old days, there were no advanced medical equipments and drugs. Babies that were not strong enough usually endd up dead and mothers who could not give birth the old natural way died with the babies.

Also the reality is, all the ackies in this country are from a very few animals, which means, nearly all the yellows are from the same parents, as are the reds. So you actually cannot outbreed unless you go poach some from Australia.

The reality is, if you produce genetic misfits, they stop doing that. Until then, all you can do is breed related ackies.

So all the theories and in breeding or out breeding is meaningless if they are all related.

Well my end goal was to have 2 males 2 females in the same cage and try a breeding project. The pairs are 800$ per pair for babies so I am trying to get my Sh1t together before I start this

Why is that your goal? It sounds like your just starting.

If your are, its much simplier to work a pair. After you successfully do that, you will have learned how to keep them. you then can have as many as you want. You will have lots and lots of babies.
