That is the most beautiful Rhino I have ever seen!

Try giving it some parsnips and winter squash to fatten him up a bit.

Mine green loves butternut and acorn squash.

Paradon Nov 12, 2011 01:44 AM

In my experience shredding the squash and parsnips make them easier to digest.

The winter squash really stimulate their appetite. My green ate like a pig after I fed it butternut squash. I used to leave fresh leafy greens out for him all day after I fed him the hard veggies salad that has butternut and acorn squash in it. He ate most of it.

I dont think hes skinny. Hes only 1yr. The males are typically lanky and then put on the lbs. later as they mature. Also, most cyclura in captivity are heavier than in the wild.
No reason to fatten him up.

well I am on my 2nd 5 pound bag of the dry food. I will try some squash or something. When I first got it, it was mean and sketchy. I have left it alone for about 3-5 months before I actually started taking him out besides for cage cleaning. Now at a year its very tame and doesn't mind being out of the cage or being held. On this new cage I built I dont have any substrate, the whole inside is coated with urathane so I can just wash it out with soap and water. With a bath soak every 3 days I havent noticed any hard sheads or dehydration due to no substrate. I am thinking about putting some mulch in there for winter comming though.

Make sure you mix the squash with other veggies so he doesn't have the runs... Any orange veggies will do that, carrots, too, but it's good for the skin and carbohydrate. Squahs is the most nutritious of all orange veggies.

I wouldn't use mulch as there is a chance he could swallow it.
