Extra Fluid in Eye?? Weird

Mikeskiprocks Nov 19, 2011 05:32 PM

Hey guys and gals I'm seeing something very strange in my male Burm. His eyes seem to have extra fluid in them pushing the actual eyes deeper into the socket. Eyecaps seems normal and there is no discharge or buildup on the outside of the eye. He is still eating and moving around the cage. It has got me worried tho.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm guna call around tomorrow and consider a visit to the vet. Ive been keeping burms for years and have never see it before. I've googled around and cant seem to find much relating to this problem.

Any tips would be appriciated

IT WOULD SEEM MORE LIKELY THAT THE AREA AROUND THE EYE IS SWELLING OUTWARD RESULTING IN THE APPEARENCE OF RECESSION RATHER THAN THE EYE GOING INWARD, AS IT DOES LAY IN A "SOCKET" LEAVING LITTLE ROOM FOR MIGRATION. ABSENT THAT COULD THE EYE ITSELF BE LOSING FLUID? IS IT SYMPTOMATIC ON BOTH SIDES? ARE THEY CLEAR AND FREE OF ANY TRANSLUCENT FLUIDS SUUGESTING INFECTION? IT IS GOOD THAT HE MOVES... IS HE ACCEPTING FOOD? A PHOTOGRAPH SHOWING OFF YOUR MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS WOULD HELP. DID YOU MAKE IT TO A VET? LET US KNOW.

I've seen mites/mite eggs do something like that after treating for them. They escape from meds and such by hiding out there after you think their gone. Hope not. You'll know next shed.VM

Hi thanks for the advice, I didnt take him to a vet, I just asked a local breeder around here and he mentioned the possible mite thing, I cleaned all around the inside of the eyes, saw no eggs or mites and still havnt yet the swelling around the eyes did go away after that so he is all better now
