Sorry for the disgusting pic. Is this a black rat or racer? The ventral color is mottled like a black rat.

Sorry you were offended. The snake is very much alive and in a small collection kept by a local parks department. He had multiple injuries when they found him. All have healed except the eye. The park guy said it was a black rat, but the vet I sent the pictures to thought a black racer. I figured someone on here could ID from a head shot.

The good news is that it looks he is going to have surgery to remove this damaged eye, and the vet feels he has a pretty good outlook.

Wow!, that poor snake has been through alot. Glad it was found and the vet is going to help it out.

.....best of luck to the poor thing on a speedy and healthy recovery!..

Fer sure a black rat..Good on ya for getting the thing taken care of. Doug..I was glad to see you post up after Thanksgiving, as I was worried about you. A whole lot of other turkeys didn't make it through Thursday. Hope you had a good one, my friend.

Another picture a few days after (it shed and looks a bit better). They report is always looks better after a shed. Anyone else have a one eyed snake story?

The report is that all went well. This is a picture while under gas anesthesia. Amazing what vets can do these days. I hope for a happy ending for this snake.
