New baby Cuban Rock Iguana

willnow Dec 04, 2011 06:33 PM

I just ordered a cuban rock ig. I have experience with bearded dragons but this is my first ig. Have not had any reptiles in 3the years. Wanted 1to something new. I have a 40 breeder to start with. Got a exo terra compact top. It holds 4 bulbs. Got a repti glo 25w 5.0 uvb compact, a sun global 25w daylight, and 2 night glo 25w moonlight bulbs. I have a temp gun and a brick of exo terra plantation soil for the bedding. Plus rocks, wood and other things for him to climb on.

Just wanted to get some feed back on the things I got. Maybe some more ideas.

Thanks,
Will

Just as I thought. The lights and hood I got look cool but can not put out snuff heat. So back to the dome fixture and a 150w heat bulb a UTH pad and a 24" UVB. The heating and light problem is solved.

You can use a couple or several heatlamps if you can't get the temperature up to the appropriate temp. The heatlamps should ideally heat up the entire body anyway, not just one spot. They cannot thermoregulate properly if the body is warm buy the tail and the head is cold. You can get by with only 100 watts bulbs if you use several heat lamps and bulbs instead of just one. Hope this helps!
