Under Chin Skin

rottenweiler9 Dec 07, 2011 03:55 PM

Just curious. When I take him out I notice the skin underneath his neck becomes loose at this point. Does this mean he is about to try and strike or prepairing to. Just wondering if anyone else notices that just holding them.

When he goes at his food, its F/T on the floor, he just kind of grabs it by getting close to it, and not really striking it. He does not ever seem aggressive, but I have never seen this from any of my other snakes.

Totally normal, and all greens show this to some degree. I believe it assists them in the swallowing of exceptionally large prey as it allows the neck skin to stretch to a greater extent than would otherwise be possible. Size for size, greens can swallow larger prey in proportion to their body size than any other boa or python.

Thaks Kelly. He is doing great by the way. He never misses a meal, and I just got him changed over to rabbits. That was very easy as well since he has such a strong feed drive and he is heavy.
