Does anyone know where I can find plans or something to make a rack for big boas and blood pythons? I have searched endlessly for racks but I am not paying $3000 to house 5 snakes... Just tired of all of the 40gal and 75gal tanks everywhere! UGH. help. lol.

I am building a rack system with three cages made of oak ply with solid oak trim. I am using Kreg jig system which is really easy, strong, and fast. My cage dimensions are 6'X2'X2', with two fold down plexi doors trimmed in oak. The inside of the cage is lined with a flexible plastic material and the bottom is covered with ceramic tile over the plastic. The back is three sections of ply with a 1/4" gap between each panel for a sliding plexi divider to house three snakes in each cage until they get bigger. I have three lights wired together with a piece of metal ducting around it to prevent snakes from getting burned. I can send you some pics when completed if you want.

That would be great thanks!

The least expensive method is an open frame of 2x4s for the sides and then install plywood shelves with no back. What you end up with is an open frame rack. Of course you need boa boxes to size to. I forgot how much those big 4x2 plastic boxes cost (from Vision or Freedom Breeder). So you will be spending some bucks for sure for plywood and boxes. Then you need to add heat and figure out how to not have the boxes rub on the heat tape.

The middle cost approach is purchasing qty 5 stackable plastic 4x2x1 boa cages (probably around $1100 shipped w/o heating).

Freedom Breeder for example has a boa stack of 6 cages, or you can go only 5 cages (or 4, or 3, or 2). With heat and thermostat installed ready to roll it is around $2K for 5. Once you have a setup like this, you will not ever look back. And it will outlast your snakes.

Big snakes are expensive to house for sure.

Thanks for the info! I went on Freedom Breeder and they really are reasonably priced. It's the shipping that is scary haha. I will consider all options.

Hey, I was reading your post and realized that I may know someplace you can look. Clay Davenport has plans on his site for several different racks and cages. I hope this helps you with your issue.
