My first GTP & New to forum!

nz Dec 10, 2011 11:51 AM

Hello everyone, I just picked up my first GTP at the local reptile expo. He's a CBB young adult Biak and very hand tame. I noticed that he had some black scales when I got him, but now that I have him home it's a lot more that I thought. I've read that sometimes low humidity can cause black scales. But, his scales are random and he matches some of the caclio GTP pictures out there. I believe he is a low black calio, if tere is such a thing! Any thoughts and insight would be much appreciated. I will post some pics as soon as he settles in. Thanks, Nima.

GTPs are of certain locales have black scales. Signal Herp has produced some really awesome high black snakes. Perhaps she just has some black in her?
Typically when a snake has black scales because of humidity they are on the belly and lower sides of the snake.
Imho, if they are random on the top of the snake they are probably just part of the snakes pattern. Also, the tail of the snake is usually a darker color as well. This is because they use it for caudal luring.

Thanks for the info, his tail is solid black. I've seen videos of them using it when hungry. I hope this guy does it, I would love to see it in person. Here's an iphone pic. It's not the best, but I'll take some good ones with my camera later.
