Range extention for mole kingsnake in Fl

L.calligaster rhombomaculata found and reported in St.Aug.Fl. F.F.W C. will do DNA for ssp.verifacation. My large tortoise enclosure walls act as a drift fence for snakes and one was found trampled to death by a Asian Mt.Tortoise. Funnel traps will be installed this spring in the corners.VM

I live in Central Florida. About 20 years ago, I was going thru a trash pile in Cocoa, Florida. Having caught Mole Kingsnakes before in North Carolina, I was quite familiar with them. Much to my surprise, flipping over some of the trash, I found a juvenile Mole Kingsnake approximately 8 inches long. I took it home and had it for 10 years until it finally died. I have never found another one since. Apparently they are rare here in Florida, but at the time I didn't know that. Too bad yours was trampled.

That is awesome to hear that you found a Mole King here in Cocoa. That had to have been a L.c.occipitolineata though, and not the more northern form (L.c.rhombomaculata).

Here is a 100% locality specimen I owned that originated from a gravid female from Desoto County near Arcadia.
South FL. Mole king
