Unusual Drymarchon discovery!

CrocodilePaul Dec 16, 2011 06:11 PM

Greetings All,

On this trip to Nicaragua, Alan Brutosky, Don Bordner, and I (Paul Bodnar) discovered a 6 foot & 2 inch, dead on the road Drymarchon species. Pictures will be posted at a later date. The snake was a solid light brownish-pink color. The whole body and head had zero black marks of any type. The tail and under belly was a pinkish color. No black eye streaks. It does not look like any other Drymarchon we have ever seen...and it was uniform colored like an Olive Python. Several head (showing scales)and body pictures were taken of this freshly road killed specimen. At the very least it is a localized form of a unicolor and at the most it may be an undescribed species!

Truly,

Paul Bodnar

Have you guys considered Masticophis mentovarius?

CrocodilePaul Dec 20, 2011 06:07 PM

Hi there! It definitely is new Drymarchon. Pictures will be worth a thousand words once I have time to post them (hopefully very soon!).

Alright, cool. I look forward to seeing the pics. It was hard to see much detail from the video, and I know some mentovarius are solid on top with pink on the tail so I thought it could be possibility. A new Drymarchon will certainly be interesting.

Looks like a mentovarius to me.
