alligator snapper baby need help

HofR Dec 24, 2011 01:02 PM

We recently rescued a young alligator snapper (133 grams) and can't get it to eat. What are some good foods to offer it that might entice it to eat? Thanks.

What are you keeping him in and how much water? How long has it been since you rescued him? He could just be stressed.Try a pinky.

Now I am completely new to ATS's so I will answer this in a very general way. When did you catch this turtle? What are the food items you are trying to feed it and do you have an actual setup for the ATS? If so he may need a few days to acclimate himself to his new surroundings. I recently received 2 hatchling ATS's that as of day #2 have not eaten yet. I have their setup with rosie red minnows and the place where I got them from said that it WILL take a few days b4 they start eating. Their is also hiding spots, the man said when you see them just laying theor with theor mouths open is when they are becoming ready to feed. ATS's are not hunters and chasers but opportunity feeders if that makes sense.

What foods have you offered? They are very shy, especially in a new habitat. You say you rescued it? How so? It's probably a common snapper if you found it out of water. In any case, I would just find a pond and let it go. You obviously know nothing about caring for an alligator snapper or common snapper.
