One spoiled rotten Sav....

dekaybrown Dec 30, 2011 01:15 AM

Wish they all had it this good....

The boiling springs ensure a fairly regular flow of crystal clear water. (Same water that feeds my habitats)

His sense of smell never ceases to amaze me, he knows just where to look. He will dig, flip rocks, roll logs out of the way, just to get a juicy worm or slug.

Just look at the muscle tone of that beefy front leg, combined with his digging talons for toenails, it may make people think a little. Monitors can get pissed off and lash out at their handlers. Chomper has drawn blood on me more than once.

Now look at the intensity of his focus, there was a lone worm about an inch under that dirt, he dug it up and ate it.

Always looking for snacks...

This guy can dig, he tears up a spot in seconds...

Look close on his snout, you can see the orange slime from the big slugs he was eating.

The snails must be tastier on the other side.......

I own a 40 acre sprawl, middle of nowhere, protected waterways, pure aquifer, no pollution, no pesticide, no fertilizers, no people. (I chase off trespassers at gunpoint)

My sav is 5 years old, 11.5 pounds, 39 inches snout to tail, gets many hours of daily interaction....

Just things to consider before finding fault with my decision to allow him to roam free on my property.

Thanks.

When I was like that, I wasn't feeling well because I went off my meds. NO kidding. I'm bipolar... Are you OK?

dekaybrown Dec 30, 2011 02:17 AM

I'm just fine... Obviously you don't know these people here very well.

I'm braced for impact here, there will surely be someone who will say "That's an idiotic thing to do" "Why would you take such risks"

My back yard is cleaner than most of Africa.....

As for bipolar, I think we all are at least a little.

I know these people perfectly well, too, yes. lol The last I posted something like that i didn't know what I was talking about. I was paranoid and very stressed out.

Hi, I don`t criticise keepers with animals in good condition, more especially this species, that normally doesn`t get much over 2 or 3 yrs in captivity. He looks great, nice to see him outside doing what comes naturally. Well done, keep on supporting him!!

I think I worded myself wrong anyways..

Those are questions I would ask, if you get what I mean...

Like "Is that a city park?"

"Are you sure of what he's eating?"

Concerns anyone with a right mind would have.

Those pictures were taken during the summer / early fall.

It's bitter cold in NY right now.

It still blows my mind when he knows exactly where to dig up a worm, or where to peel the bark off a log to get a beetle underneath.

His senses are nothing short of amazing.

He was swimming in the creek, and he spotted this water snake so fast it was unreal..
