Florida Winter herping.

DSavickey Jan 03, 2012 01:58 PM

I am planning a trip to Florida in either Jan, Feb, or March. Not sure what month would be best to go in for finding herps, well snakes. Im looking for racers and water snakes. Also I normally travel to south fl, but am thinking of trying a bit north, either orland area, or even panhandle. Im looking for advice and even if someone wants to show me around a few hot spots. Thanks

The weather in central Florida can be spotty in the winter. The entire southeast just had a cold spell over the past few days, so there probably isn't much activity right now. My guess is that it might be best to wait until March or April for better results. Water snakes and racers are some of the first snakes to appear in the spring in SC.
