HELP Bearded dragon ate a piece of foam.

TCK46 Jan 03, 2012 09:38 PM

It was feeding time for my bearded dragon and he is just about 13 months old and I was moving him to his feeding cage and a piece of housing styrofoam that was loose somewhere landed in the cage and he quickly ate it up before I could get it. Will it hurt him? I have my basking spot at about 107 now to possibly help digest.

Foam is not digestable so I would lower his temp back to normal. How big was the size of foam and what exactly is it for? Would you say the size of a penny-nickel-quarter? Depending on the size of it he may be able to pass it.

Please advise
Linda

It was about the size of maybe 1 alphalpa pellet maybe even smaller. I already changed the temp back to normal. It was from housing styrofoam, the little balls. You can google exactly what this is. They are tightly packed together and covered with a plastic wrap almost to keep from easy breaking.

I would just watch him. If he stops eating or pooping get him to the vet. He can probably pass this. Warm soaks may also some. Watch his poop to see if it comes out.

Also, you can give him some canned pumpkin. It's a natural laxative; he should poop it right out. I've seen a vet do this a couple time and it worked. Make sure it's just plain canned pumpkin with nothing added like salt, sugar and herbs...no pumpkin pie filling because it has sugar and salt added.
